How To Define Halal Rations

By Leanne Goff

Several principles and instructions exist in Muslim teachings that dictate which foods are legal to eat and which ones are not permitted. These laws mostly talk about poultry and beef animals. Islam believers are not regarded as true Muslims if they fail to abide by these regulations. The law on halal rations is very clear on the right diet to be followed by believers.

The Quran is the base of all these guidelines. Muslims for example are not permitted to eat pork or pig products, they are also not allowed to consume meat from cattle or animals that were slaughtered after they had died from other causes. Blood consumption is illegal in the eyes of the law. All animals must be respected and subjected to minimal pain when being slaughtered.

There is only one approved method for slaughtering animals in the Islamic law; the cutting of the jugular vein and allowing blood to fully drain. The drained blood should then be disposed off. Butcheries that abide by these rules are given a certification by the relevant authorities to sell their products to Muslims.

As much as there is a limit to the amount of food that believers are permitted to eat, the meals must be sufficient to sustain an individual. After animals are slaughtered the meat is processed and packed into hygienic packs. These packs comprise of utensils and napkins. The packaging means that the food in them can last for duration of time.

When packaged the meals are ready to eat without the need for cooking. Alternatively, one may decide to cook the foods again or heat them in ovens or microwaves. The package is built to endure high levels of temperatures and so an individual can plunge them in hot water for a quicker warmer meal.

Store owners and food manufacturing companies need to ensure that the ration is properly labeled according to their nutritional composition. Consumers on the other hand ought to check the contents of each pack so that they eat a meal that has a nutritional balance. To be on the safe side and in line with Islamic laws, the buyers must ascertain that all contents on the packs are genuine and complement the true ingredients of the meal.

A majority of products in supermarkets have a shelf life. Buyers should examine this when searching for a ration to purchase; the nearer the date of manufacturing the better the quality of product. Rations can last up to ten months and it is recommended that food past its shelf life must not be consumed as it may be contaminated with bacteria and moulds.

To sum up, companies have come to accept that Halal rations offer another opportunity for business. Many firms target military and service men in the production of these products because they rarely have enough time to focus on what their diet entails. Buying the ration for military men and women is easier and cheaper than following all the guidelines in the Islamic laws on slaughtering and handling of meals.
